Process

Carolyn makes each piece by hand through a process of fusing and slumping. She begins by cutting sheets of colored glass to create the elements of her design. Carolyn composes the cut glass into rhythmic and playful patterns and prepares it for its metamorphosis in the kiln. The first firing raises the temperature to approximately 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, forming a single fused slab of multicolored glass. This new piece is then kiln fired a second time in a mold ("slumping") to gently coax it into its final shape. Through experimentation and careful attention to detail, Carolyn has perfected a process that creates a crisp quality to her finished glasswork. Each piece exhibits subtle variations in shape and color.
